I recently found several of these first edition WISC (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children) puzzles

but don't know for certain

perhaps it was once part of something larger—I am not sure

as opposed to many "wood spirit" carvings--faces carved into branches with the bark on them--which are pretty kitschy

would make an especially nice valentine of sorts for whoever is one's "Best of All

Sweet Family of Carved Animals op art I recently found several ofI found these together in a box, clearly carved by the same maker, and I believe the same maker as a bunch of heads chess pieces carved of old wood spools, listed separately. I love the whole lot of these, but it makes me especially happy that there is a tiny turtle smiling among them! The posture of what I take as a sitting bear is pretty wonderful too, as is that little elephant, and the tiny head on much taller body of whatever that tallest
